Okay - I've got a request to make a 3D Spaceship/Rocketship "blasting off" out of the planet earth. Last minute change from a sports-themed cake (which I had all planned out and practiced). I've got to have this cake done by next Saturday (did I mention I'm going out of town on Friday and have to have everything baked and frozen by Friday morning?) HELP!!!!! I've got some of the girls coming over to help me bake it, and they will be there to help assemble next Saturday, but I want to get as much done and "ready t o assemble" as possible.
Luckily, I don't sell my cakes, but it is for a group I volunteer for, and I really don't want to let them down. It is for a big party, and they just changed their theme. Oh . . . and their mascot is a bunny, so extra points if you figure out how to work that into the cake!
I was kind of thinking of using the 3D ball ban as the earth (maybe just making only 1/2 of it? . . . or I can get the bigger soccer ball pan) but I have no idea how to do the rocket. Would love to hear your thoughts/input/suggestions! Thanks in advance.
Well, I don't know about a spaceship blasting off, but you could do an earth and maybe the moon and cupcakes as stars and have the space shuttle floating around in the solar system or something like that... like a whole table set up if it's a large gathering... You could probably mold a sun pretty easily too out of a big cake and slightly smaller ones...
I'm not expert, but I think I made a pretty mean space shuttle which you can see in my photos. It's a rolled cake and is very simple to do, but it only serves a dozen, not a gob of people.

If you baked two bundt cakes, then cut them in halves or cut one in quarters (depending on how big the cake will be) they would make great fins or whatever you call they bottom parts of a rocket ship
as it's standing up.
You may be able to use bundt cakes, agi\\ain, cut in halves, to form the body.
Good luck!

Thanks. I like those spaceships . . . trying to decide whether to go the jellyroll space shuttle route, or try carving it. I think I'm going to do it flat, and have the earth on one side, and some planets around using the 3D ball and mini ball pans. Haven't quite figured it all out yet, but please keep the input coming!

I am going to make a rocket cake in a couple of weeks. There is one in my photos, not my best effort. I used a pampered chef small batter bowl and 2 6 inch rounds. The base is 8 inches. The next cake will be similar, only I think I will carve it to get a sharper point, and make fondant buttons. My friend had the idea to put it on a short raised tier and have dry ice underneath it for smoke. I'll post a picture when I am done. I think it will be really cool!
