some ideas... 1. fondant coated wire 2. gumpaste 3. modeling chocolate

Maybe you will get some more feedback if I give you a bump.

Thanks.. good ideas.. I guess I'm just wondering if I did the trunk/branches in gumpaste, then how would I do the leaves? Buttercream? What tip?

I saw on the cake challenge the other night they took grape stems and dipped them in chocolate for trees. LOVED the idea.

I saw Duff do something similar for the leaves part. He made royal icing and spread it on waxpaper, very thin. After it was totally dry he used the edge of a spatula to scrape it up. It broke up in tiny pieces, looking like the flocking you get on cards and holiday decorations. then just glue that to your branches.
