Feather Indentations

I have been asked to do an eagle cake. The one she likes is pictured below. Does anyone know of any tricks to make the feather indentations or is this all done by hand? THANKS!!!

I used a small knife to score lines in fondant feathers on my eagle head. That part of it went really quick!

I was reading yesterday about using leaf veiners to make feather impressions.
