these are absolutely beautiful!! I don't know if they are covered in fondant or chocolate... they look so smooth and flawless. Anyone knows how to make these beauties?
There are afew christmas ornaments on CC that are very similar. Maybe U can get some ideas from these:

They look like cake balls, I think they are make out of cake and frosting shaped in to balls. I have seen them on blogs
I had a bride show up with a pic of those last year and then got pissy at me when I quoted her a price. She didn't want to pay more than $3.00 apiece.
She then proceeded to post on the local wedding forum saying I was way over-priced (and rude... because I didn't agree to her price).
I really highly doubt that they are cake balls.
Some people put the cakes on sticks to make cake pops. Try this site:

These are my favorite:

I think they are cake balls, they were decorated with detail. I went back and read the posts. Notice: 16 March 2009 at 12:41 pm by Toni.

i dont think its cake balls, they are to big.
I think it could be the wilton mini ball pan

They are beautiful. I think they would be cake not the same as the small cake balls.

She is about 10 minutes from me! I will have to go and visit.
i would of said mini ball pan, or some other round ball pan. Who knows, ive seen christmas ornaments done this way, and also by using cupcakes

These are beautiful - did you see how much they are? 9 British pounds each for the small (1 serving) which comes out to be about $14.35 in US dollars...the large (3 servings) are 12 British pounds and she wanted them for $3.00 each! Crazy!
they are beautiful, but in the article below say's something about she weaves thin silk and weave's into balls, so everyone has a piece of cake, it might be the ones in the other picture but it sounds like they hold the cake inside.
No, it says the original art, that the cakes are modeled after involves weaving silk. The cakes have nothing to do with weaving or silk.
I also wonder if these are made with the wilton ball pan?
As I haven't seen this pan in real life would it be possible to get to of the pan, over fill one and clamp the other on top to make a round ball?
And as much as they are beautiful they are not as complicated as the real art.
Look at the real balls with the ribbon woven

Being as there are various sizes, I think that the larger of them are a mini ball pan, the smaller more varied sized I would thin it easiest to do 'cake-pop' style. The smoothness looks to be either white choclolate, modeling chocolate or liquid fondant (melted). and I agree with _Jamie_, looks like a shimmer airbrush to get the perfect uniform glimmer. I think I'm going to give these a try for the holidays!
Just took a look and those are awesome!
You can make these with chocolate, dye the chocolate with oil based color and brush them with pearl dust. You can buy the round plastic balls in craft stores to use for your mold.
I'm sure this is a really dumb question but what are cake balls and cake pops? TIA, cheryl
