Not an expert on luster dust, but I have used it on a few projects.
I found my mistake was, because of the price, I was trying to be frugal in it's use. Can't do that. Use whatever it takes to get a good finish, nice and even. If it takes a lot, then it takes a lot. When I need a good luster look, I just have to break down and spend the money.

If you need to cover a large area, try using one of those triangular make-up sponges. Good luck.
