Chocolate Bavarian Cream Filling - How Much Needed?
Decorating By gloria Updated 18 Sep 2009 , 6:57am by Bluehue
I just purchased a 2 lb. pkg of chocolate bavarian cream filling for my cake.
Can anyone tell me how much this will fill. I have a 6", 9" and 12" cake to do.
Also, does anyone ever add anything to this?
I want it to have a 1/2 inch fill. Will the cakes "squish" it down so it buldges?
My cake supply store gave me a chart just this week:
Sleeve holds 3 cups. 6"- 1/3 cup; 9"- 1 cup: 12"- 1 3/4 cup
The shopowner did stress that you don't want to overfill, as then your layers could slide/shift. 1/2" sounds like a lot. And you would probably have bulges unless you used a really stiff BC as the dam at the edge.
I just used some filling this evening...I'm doing my own strawberry torte where you half the 2 layers and then put 3 1/4 thick fillings. So, I only ended up using 1-2 lb. bag of bavarian creme and 2-2 lb. of strawberry for an 8", 10" and 12". if that makes any sense to you...you will probably want to do a thinner layer of filling than a 1/2" or do the filling like I did above. good luck!
