I bought some clay pots for cookie bouquets, but I don't know what to paint them with? What kind of paint do I use, acrylic or something else? It's been a long time since I painted anything but a wall. Any advice would be helpful.

Thanks.

I use acrylic when painting pots and and other similar things. Don't know if that's the best, but it works for me!

I use "Patio Paints". They are in the same size bottles as the acrylic. The pots can be used to plant flowers when the cookies are gone! If you use just acrylic paints, you might have problems with the paint bubbling off once the pots have flowers in them and they are watered. I know you can seal them with Gesso, but this didn't work as well as the "patio paints" brand paint. I've also decopaged (sorry about the spelling!) the pots. I cut out designs from wrapping paper and glue them onto the painted pots.

I really like spray painting them because you don't get any brush marks and it's faster. You can always apply acrylic details over the spray paint. I did not need to prime the pots when I spray painted them.

I've also experimented with a variety of top coats to give the finished product a little more shine. I tried about 3 or 4 brands, and I settled on a product by Krylon called 'triple coat glaze' (might be called triple thick ... I can't find my can right now icon_rolleyes.gif ). It's about 4.99 at Michaels and 2.99 at Walmart. Gives the pots a nice gloss finish.
