I'm making a barrel of apples cake. I have the general design planned - stacked 8" cakes, slightly tapered downward with fondant slats, dried a bit, cut somewhat tapered as well and uneven, cake covered in brown cream then slats added, fondant strips wrapped around top and bottom and silver gilded "staples"
Any design advice you can offer? Aside from making the salts woodgrain I could use any advice from people who have made a similar cake before. Thanks in advance for any help!

When I did my beer bucket cake I put black fondant around the barrel also and I painted my wooden slats with a couple different shades of brown and black to make it look weathered and wooden.
