Made A Mistake When Adding Ingredients....

Good Morning, I made a choc cake this morning...cake mix, plus 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar, 1 cup sour cream, 1 egg, 1 tsp of van. Well I made a mistake, the box calls for 1 1/4 cup water and 1/2 cup oil...well I added 1 cup oil before I figured out what I was doing..so I added 3/4 cup of water (the 1/4 cup & 1/2 cup) I baked it, it looks fine and baked up fine. The only thing I have to say for myself is it was 5:00 AM. ![]()
Does anyone have any idea of how it is going to taste? I do have time to bake another one...think I should?
I have learned my lesson, don't try to bake a cake before you go to work.
Thanks
I think it might be very heavy or oily, but am not sure. If it is for someone other than immediate family (i.e. paying customer), I would bake another one. Then you can try this one and let us know how it turned out. Better safe than sorry in my opinion.
I have a friend who makes all of her cakes with this recipe....1 box of mix....4 eggs....1 cup of oil and then 1/2 cup water. She doesn't use the cup of flour or sour cream or vanilla...I think the cake will be okay...I don't think it would be oily...maybe just moister than usual. You could alway take the smallest of a plug out of one of the bottom layers and taste it for yourself....whoever gets that piece will just get a bonus of more icing or filling!!! Good luck!!!
