I was watching the episode the other night where 2 of the decorators were making cupcakes for a friends wedding and was shocked to see that they were using boxed cake mix! Did anyone else notice it? Did they use it because it was sort of a "on the side" thing? 
Duff has an issue with not baking cupcakes.. since his entry in the Guiness Book was removed.. so since then he has not baked cupcakes.. they have a baker Adam who does all the cakes but his friends wanted to make the cupcakes so Duff let them use the kitchen for the massive amount they needed to bake and so they used box mix since the only one with culinary skills at Charm City is Duff and Adam...

They have a baker on the show, but since Duff didn't want any part of the cupcakes, he made the girls make them themselves. I've made cupcakes from a box before and they didn't turn out manatee shaped like theirs did, so I have no idea what went wrong! haha

idk. well for the real stuff they have a guy who just bakes, doesn't decorate.

Duff had the world's largest cupcake. He and Geoff made it. They made it in two pieces (he baked the bottom in a bucket!). When they found out they took it away.

The cupcakes turned out like that because of the way the mix was placed in the cups. I thought the manatee cupcake that Anna did was really funny! I love this show!
You know, I would watch it just to hear Duff laugh! I love this guy's laugh!
I like the way he handles mistakes, and laughs things off,keeps going!
They do all their own baking, so the mix had to have been because of the cupcakes being an "on the side" project. By the way, they use Satin Ice fondant.

Ha ha...and it clocked in at 2 million calories...but who's counting! 
I just saw that episode and couldn't quite get past all of the chipped nail polish. Here they are making these figures and they have half a finger nail of red polish. Wonder where the other half went. Yuck.
At least they weren't missing a nail. My dh's friend found a Lee Press On in his doughnut one morning. Pretty gross, but funny at the same time.
You know, I have trouble with my convection oven settings sometimes. This is also possible,I agree. I also have had the other problem too,though!
I have to set the cupcakes on 325 and then I place them on the second shelf up. they cook perfectly like this.
