how much figure modeling do you want to do, as this idea would require multiple figures.

3 round cakes, cut and assembled to be the classic mouse head logo shape decorated to be the pool.

of course for Mickey in a very deep reference to his origins could portray him as Steamboat Willie piloting his boat around the swimming pool

Some of the designs Doug suggested could be copied and outlined/filled in on a flat surface. Try sculpting, and if that doesn't work, how are your skills in copying those drawings?

Drawings I can do - but the cake is a small cake....
How do people do the modeling?? As in, what do you use to do it?? I've heard of modeling chocolate - do you make it or buy it?
I appreciate all the help! icon_wink.gif

have you worked with polymer clay? techniques are the same

4 options:

pure gumpaste -- dries hardest, dries fastest (almost too fast) least edible

pure fondant -- dries slowly which means sagging can be an issue but that also means more time to "futz" with and get it just right. -- fairly edible

blend of gumpaste and fondant -- attributes of both -- the "middle" ground -- somewhat edible

modeling chocolate -- make at home --most edible -- see this thread (includes recipes and lots of advice)
