Hi, i'll be making a baby shower cake next week and i need a recipe for red velvet cake, idealy I would like to make it from scratch, but I don't have a lot of free time and I would like to know how I can doctor up a red velvet cake mix, it will be a carved cake and about 3 tiers.
I appreciate any ideas!!
TIA.
I've had great success with blakescakes recipes. ![]()

Thank you, it looks like a great recipe. I will give it a try soon.
Shabbychic - I was just curious to know if you tried the doctored red velvet recipe and if so, how did it turn out. I have to make one and don't even know what a good red velvet is supposed to taste like so I need a recipe (scratch OR doctored) that is a winner.
I just recently found this web site of a gent in Brooklyn NY who does the most amazing red velvet cake and he has his recipe posted online.
I gave it a try and it is amazing and I think that this will be my only red velvet cake recipe from here on out.
His bio is inspirational and a must read but here is the link to the recipe ![]()
