How do you get the real dark colors like red, blue and green in the buttercream? I had to make a fire truck for my grandsons birthday, and I must have put in 6 tubes of the red gel dye, plus a whole container of the red paste dye, and it still looked like a dark pink!

Hmmm.not sure what brand you are using but the Americolor Super Red does not require that much to get a great dark red.Wilton colors generally take the whole bottle and sometimes make the icing taste yucky.When you say tubes...what are you using because all the product out there that I know of doesn't come in a tube
