I am making a Hollywood theme cake and I am trying to do the stars on the wire to stick in the top of the cake like this: [http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=displayimage&pid=1390662]. I cant get the fondant to stay on the wire. I cut out 2 stars and sandwiched them together with the wire in the middle, and the wire just pulls right out. HELP!!

I suggest using a 50/50 mix and gently sticking the wire into a single star (not trying to stick them together) then letting them dry.

What thickness do you need for the fondant to be?

I make a tiny flat loop in the end of the wire that is going into the fondant. I figure it just gives the fondant a little more to grip to.
