When I have used Macmom's recipes, one recipe has given me enough batter for 2 9x2 layers plus 6-12 cupcakes. If you are using the 2 cake mix, 2 cups of flour, 2 cups of sugar base recipes, I think one recipe of each will give you plenty for the 10" and the 8". I actually did a half recipe when I did the 8 inch.
I haven't done a 10 yet but I think it will be enough batter.
