I am new to cake decorating and have never made a topsy turvy cake but I would like to know if anyone has made it without using different size layers.....for example can I use a double layer 9 inch on the bottom and a double layer 6 inch and just torte them on an angle? Or do I need to do it like it is in the tutorial and use 9-8-7 and 10-11-12. Sorry that was long and confusing but I appreciate your help.

You can use any size cakes you want, if you use all the same size you will have to carve it, I guess the tutorial advices to use those diff sizes to avoid having to carve too much cake!! I guess you can always make cake balls out of the scraps! Good luck!
Oh, one more thing, I found easier to carve cakes when they have been refrigerated or frozen (beggining to thaw), HTH.
