Hi, if I would cover a cake base with fondant, do I have to cover it with anything before? Or could I add fondant to card board?

Hi, I add gel and cover all of the areas, tops and sides and then fold the fondent as I do onto a cake. Let it set before I place the cake on it. You probably could also use a light touch of smoothed icing?? I usually use gel and it has worked fine for me several times. HTH icon_smile.gif

I like to glue foam core on the top of a masonite board. I spray the top of the foam core with a little water before putting the fondant on top. Then I let it dry for a week to make sure I don't leave any marks on the fondant when I put the cake together.
