How Make Buttercream Orchids?
Decorating By AgentCakeBaker Updated 11 Jul 2009 , 12:20am by drakegore
Hello everyone
Does anyone know of any tutuorials or advice they can give on how to make orchids out of buttercream icing?
A bride-to-be wants purple orchids and she wants her entire cake to be buttercream. No gumpaste or sugarpaste flowers. Possibly royal icing but definitely buttercream.
Any assistance would be GREATLY appreciated?
I'm just starting to learn flowers other than roses, so I can't give you any real advice, but if all else fails, I found this book that promises a buttercream orchid: http://www.amazon.com/dp/0930113101/?tag=cakecentral-20
The above suggested book is the only one that i have seen a buttercream orchid in.
What about using fresh ones?
This video shows making buttercream orchids! I knew I'd seen it somewhere, HA-HA! It's in the second half of the video.
You'll find royal icing instructions here....maybe you can adapt them to buttercream?

i have the book that varika linked you too and i recommend it.
linda reese also has a little paperback about the same size that shows how to do a moth orchid in buttercream which is pretty darn neat.
if your need is urgent, i can try and take photos (i don't have a scanner) to send you if you like. just PM me with your email address and i will give it a try in the morning.
