Square Cake People - What Do You Use

directly under your cake?

What kind of "cardboard" do you use when you do a square cake? Wilton does not make square cake boards? Do you cut your own from a larger one used for a sheet cake?

I hope this thing doesn't post 5 times!!

I use foam boards cut to size of the cake.

I use round boards....then after the cake is iced and chilled I take an exacto knife and hang it slightly off the countertop and slice right around the edge of the cake. Then stack.

Foam boards, I can't stand cardboard of any type, square OR round.

I just switched to using foam core. Cheap, sturdy, and easy to cut!

Are you guys doubling the foam core or do you use one single layer&

I use single for like 8 and 10. I double when it's like 12 or more. But if I am stacking I just put 1, and triple the bottom one lol.

Depends. For the very bottom base, the one that you see and gets decorated, 1/2 inch foam core (1 piece). For individual tiers, I usually still use the 1/2 inch, one piece, but occasionally will use the thin board if I don't care about extra height, or am using it under carved cake.

I do the same as _Jaime_ - you can get the foam core board at Michaels or Hobby Lobby.

Foam core here too. Just cut to size with an exacto knife.
Get mine at Hobby Lobby, Michaels, Joann's, and use a coupon!
