First Cake And I Don't Know If This Is A Great Idea

I am making the cake for my families fourth of july party. I was thinking doing a three layer cake, the first layer having cream cheese on it, and the next with chocalate frosting.
First off, im not sure if that would tase good, the cream chese, because I never tried it. And then I dont know what the outside frosting flavor should be. Any ideas?
Sorry if I dont make sense because this is my first cake, I dont know terms and what not..
