or you can think outside of the box when you don't have the money to spend on all of those expensive plates.
I bought a round tray at walmart ($11-12), turned it upside down and used it. It was a bit of a bonus as it had the handles to grab and pick up.
I used it on a cake I made for my son's birthday - I think that cake had to weigh at least 25 lbs.!

I have used a piece of wood covered with "mactac" (sticky paper) that had a flooring look to it for my wedding table cake (see pic).
I used a pizza stone for an 60th anniversary cake (see my pic).
