Hello all,

I am making a birthday cake for a girl who is turning 13 on Saturday. They want a stacked 8" and 6" cake iced in white buttercream with purple and pink flowers on it.
My question is should I use Buttercream or royal and what kind of flowers should I make? I was thinking maybe roses are too mature for a girl who is turning 13. Any ideas?

thanks in advance!

Pink and purple daisies in royal with yellow centers are nice for a 13 year old.
And little purple violets and pink and white daises are pretty too.

Will the buttercream break down the royal icing?

It should't break down the flowers if you let the buttercream crust first before applying them.

I think roses are fine. Most little girls love them because it makes them feel like a princess. I remember that my sister and I always used to fight over roses and that was only about 5 years ago haha I don't think much has changed.

I think a combination of roses and flowers like violets and daisies would be absolutely perfect.

HTH Good Luck!! Can't wait to see your cake!

Personally I think I would lean more to doing daisies or something similiar to the cake that doc_farms posted. Teenagers like the more "funky" look as opposed to the elegance that one would associate with Roses. But that's just my opinion. Good luck with whatever you decide. Be sure you post a pic when you're done.
