Okay we need help, I recently tried my first BCT it looked so crazy amazing... It was Alex the lion from Madagascar. But when i went to transfer him he came breaking apart... Also the words MADAGASCAR fell apart completely. From the picture you can see that the face is fine but that is after my mom came and saved the day but thickening it... Is that my problem was it to thin...??? Let me know ... I really enjoyed the try but was so frustrated am going to take a break from bcts for a while... Thanks all
I've only done one BCT myself.. mine also broke... but I know that I made my too thin .. had I made it thicker and frozen it for a bit longer, I'm sure it would have worked better... but gosh, it did look good before it broke lol
Thicker is better. You want to go 1/4th of a inch or thicker. The thinner it is the faster it thaws, and then it doesn't come off the wax paper like it should.

I don't know how exactly you placed it, but I would like to add, make sure you leave it in the freezer until your ready to place it. Don't panic and rush when placing on your cake but know exactly were it's going and have your plan in place BEFORE you remove it from the freezer. Make sure you keep your bags of icing nearby for touchups.

I've tried a few BCTs and I really like them. I've only had one successful one though. 
Thanks for the tips! Now I can make successful ones consistantly instead of having to pray the whole time! 
Still afraid to try a BCT or FBCT.... 
I will just keeping reading and learning more before I try it.
I did my first FBCT before I read how to do it--Cocky, eh??? I know I made mine too thin because it kept sticking and a few parts didn't come off at all but I just filled those in with frosting. All in all, I was pleased with it (Frustrated at first) and will read instructions first (I guess I get that trait from my husband--do first then read) and practice more.
