I wanted to make a bigger rose than the wilton 5-petal cutter, but I couldn't find the Jem 5 petal cutters locally (don't like to order online because I've had ID theft problems in the past). Anyhow, a man at the cake decorating shop told me that he used to use a round cutter to make big rose petals...just roll it a bit thicker so you can stretch it more with the ball tool. I tried it yesterday (using the medium circle from wilton's metal set of 3 circles) and it works very well. I used some crumpled foil for the center, kind of shaped like a Hershey's kiss. I put the petals on without letting them dry in between, and I probably would have had better looking petals if I'd let them dry a bit, but it's not bad at all for a new way to use a cutter I already had

did you use the same size cutter for all the petals? I have been wanting to do a rose this way...yours looks great!
I did use the same size for all the petals. The petals toward the outside I rolled into an oval shape after I cut them, so they would be longer.
