I was just wondering at what point in the decorating process do you move your cake to your cake board?

I use a board cut to the size of the cake and then put it on a bigger board after I've got the fondant on, with a smear of frosting between the two boards so they don't slide.
I will place my cake on a cake board just one inch bigger to help me gauge how much icing I need. Then I fill, ice, smooth and place in freezer to set it so it doesn't get dinged up when I transfer to the cake drum. On the cake drum I do the final decoration.
