Holding Off On Uploading New Cakes Until "popular"

Ok, I'm sure this is complete vanity...which since I'm still quite new is silly of me, but is anyone else holding off on putting their photos on while the site is being upgraded? I *miss* the "popular cakes today" pictures on the frontpage. That way many more people could see and comment on your work. Maybe it's never coming back (which would be sad), but I also miss the all time popular cakes too. I'll just cross my fingers and see what we get. ![]()
lol...Is this a little vain? I don't know but it sure is funny! I am sure once all the construction dust settles, we will all be completely happy with it! I guess I'm just an optimist! Cant you still "search" for the pictures in these categories?? Just wondering.
As it is now, you can only see the last 10 pictures that have been loaded on the home page. If you go to "Galleries" and click on Last uploads you can see the pictures that have been loaded, from the last to be loaded, going back to those loaded yesterday and the day before. The home page shows only those that have been loaded in about the last half hour. You are missing a lot, if you don't check out Last uploads
thank you mme k, i did not know i could do that!

You're welcome..... you'd be surprised how many cakes go unnoticed because they're not on the home page for long..... there are hundreds of pictures loaded daily, and only 10 spots on the home page....
I do notice that my cakes arent getting as many views, comments, saves as the "old" way. I guess I don't really care though. It would have been important to me before as reassurance and confidence boosting, but I guess I have gotten past that now.
Hmmm.. I do like being able to see both.. and I actually rather the 'best of the day' be shown.. but I would never wait around to upload in hopes to make the most popular list.
I think your cakes will been seen regardless. Actually.. now that they don't have the most popular for the day, I go and look in the most recent uploads tab all the time to make sure I didn't miss a stellar one, because before it would do it for me on the homepage. In that respect.. your cakes may be MORE likely to be seen now since people have to actually look at all of 'em.
And to me, the point of uploading them has always just been to share ideas. I never realized it was for views or favorites, lol.. call me naive.
KoryAK, you're funny. Feeling awarded is exactly how I feel when I get views and "favorites" on my cakes. I put a TON of work into my cakes and never get paid for any of them (hobby decorator in Florida). My only form of payment is joy from others and respect from my peers. Plus, I like seeing what cakes others respond to and why. It helps me gague what to and what not to repeat.
I definately miss the most recent style of photo upload presentation. I love seenig the very popular cakes the new cakes the favourite new cakes and the changing holiday popular cakes. I thought that was just amazing. I hope they are bringing that feature back and they are just working on improving it right now.
I too like the rotating feature, hopefully all of the other headings will come back and each have that same feature. Funny thing is I usually I'm on this site using my phone and for the longest time I didn't know there was this new feature until I went on my pc.(Haha)
Since this site is under construction I like to add my 2 cents: I would really like it if when you open a forum topic if it would go directly to the first submission from the author. My only peeve is that I have to then click on the first page once the topic is open.
Wait now that I'm writing this let me ask, is there a way to set your settings to do this automatically?????
I haven't held off uploading photos during the "construction" phase of CC. I have a different point of view regarding the cake photos and comments. I don't post my photos with expectations of comments or being placed in categories like "Most Popular", etc. I use CC as a place to communicate with other cake decorators - both professional and hobbyists alike. Posting my photos allows others the opportunity to look at them and if they are so inclined - to post a comment. Only one time have I posted a photo with the specific request to let me know what other CCers thought.
When I started on CC I was absolutely thrilled when someone took the time to comment on my cakes. Then about I stumbled into a thread from members that frequent the website complaining about all the new photos being uploaded and how hard it was to comment on each and everyone. I thought people were commenting because they actually wanted to say something about my cakes - not because they felt they had to - and I was upset to say the least. I don't view this website as a popularity contest, and don't post photos just for the chance that one might be "most popular", etc. I guess I am a little jaded now and when people do comment, I can't help but wonder: did they comment because they really wanted to or did they feel like they had to so that no cakes would go by without someone commenting? Unfortunately I will never know the answer and will continue to appreciate the comments, but am not going to whine and complain if my photos don't receive a comment or make it into specific categories. My personal growth as a cake decorator is what I am most interested in and the ability to communicate with other fellow cake decorators.

I couldn't have said it better!

This is the only way I ever look at photos and i've been using this feature almost since Day One of joining. I never even go to the home page (my bookmark takes me directly to the forums page). You could delete the whole home page or turn it into a porno site and I'd never even notice.

EXACTLY! I dont' post my pics to enter them in a popularity contest. they are there (1) as a place to hold my cake photos for client, friends and brides (2) as a reference for anyone looking for ideas.

Amen! I feel the same way! I'm just glad to have a place like this to learn so much valuable information! I have learned FAR MORE here than I would have at any class I could have taken!
Thanks!!!!!!
The website updates aren't complete.

P.S. Thanks for explaining how newest cake photos can always be seen as "last uploads" in the galleries.
