Sometimes you have to bend out the narrow end of the tip a little bit to keep from getting jagged edges.

This is exactly the problem I was having with my roses as well. After countless hours of practice and experimentation, I finally realized my icing was too thin. Using a stiffer icing also solved my "melting" rose issues. I added a little more powered sugar and "TA-DA!!!" I can finally make a nice looking rose.

You don't even want to know how many roses had to die before I figured it out lol icon_smile.gif

Anyway, I hope this helps on your quest to master "The Rose"!

If your icing is jagged, your icing is too stiff. Try adding just a little corn syrup to your icing, perhaps a teaspoon at a time, to make it less stiff. Also there are many tutorials on U-Tube on making roses. For practice and making roses, I use this recipe:

1 1/3 cups of Crisco
2 lbs of confectioners sugar (10X)
1/2 cup water with flavoring ( for roses, I use just a little less of a half cup of water)

I took a class at an adult education class at the community college and it gave me a great start. Good luck to you.

TexasSugar had a great idea....post some of your roses, and let the experts see if they can tell by looking...and, as some other posters have said: go to fondant roses, you'll never go back!!!! thumbs_up.gif
