Hi Everyone,
First time asking advice. Thanks in advance!
I am making mini-cakes for a charity event in a few weeks. It is being held at an Observatory and an astronaut is coming to speak to us. It is adults only. I am making the cakes as favors (I made mini-ornaments for Christmas and they have asked for the mini-ball cakes similar to those). Anyhow, it needs to have a space type theme, but not child like. I was thinking of doing a marbelized bluish-blackish fondant to cover the minicakes and then potentially using dragees to make the large stars of a constellation and them painting the lines between them with lustre dust...does that make sense?
I would LOVE any other ideas...I am sure it will be much better than mine!
Thanks!
Anita
your idea actually sounds really great! how about packaging them in individual clear boxes with a nice shear ribbon, and maybe a star charm or something as the "tag".
that sounds like a cool project.
maybe try using a couple different sizes of the dragees?
My DH is BIG into astronomy..more gear than the cake stuff
and I just asked him for suggestions...he said "Comet McNaught" which has been visible and even I have seen it.
How about the blackish/blueish fondant like you thought of and a comet with it's tail up in the night sky...All the astronomy types would go crazy over that (according to DH)

Edited to also say: I remember reading that MariaLovesCakes was into astronomy so maybe she has a suggestion..you might PM her..she was in the spotlight not long ago

Thanks for all the ideas. I hope I can pull this off. I love that cake! That certainly helps. I think I may do those gold stars. I wish I was artistic enough to draw those birth sign constellations!
Thanks again!
Anita
Just wanted to say thanks for the ideas...I uploaded the pics to my photos. I went with a shooting star cake and sun cakes. Thanks for the help...the hostess loved them!
