He is way cute! It just looks like he had a bloddy nose and lunch. That smile! After being thru surgery and smile like that! You have such a little hero.

Idreamofcakes - seriously think about a case. What the doc did to you never needs to be repeated. Think about what you want out of it. It is not always about the money. Sometimes it is just getting these idiots out of the OR so they can't hurt other people. What kind of follow up will you have to go thru now, and the counseling? A serious apology of his wrong doing will heal the emotional pain more than you will know until you have it in writing.

wow Loucinda it must be the economy, Tita charged us all $80!!

The only way to get to know people ( and I use that term lightly with us) is to butt in, and what a better thread to butt in on, then one to give well wishes to precious boy??

Wow! Already you can see the difference and I have to imagine there's a lot of swelling.

I do have to tell you though, Melvira, Alex looks like he's getting a wee bit irritated with your "paparazzi-ing"

Yay for Alex! I'm happy he is feeling so well!

I believe that kids who face those huge obstecles turn out to be the most amazing people. As said before, I watched two babies (my younger sisters) go through so much in their short lives but am still amazed by the little strong kind hearted people they were at such a young age.

Mel, I'm so glad your little guy is doing well. I see a huge difference in the two photos. His little nose looks symetrical now. Wow, it is just amazing what they can do! He looks so much like you! icon_biggrin.gif I'm so happy that everything went well and I hope he has a speedy recovery.

Oh, I'm so glad you asked! I was thinking I should post a pic, but got busy today!

Here's my dumplin after getting the nose tubes out! We got those out Tuesday and he's looking fantabulous!

ETA: And no mocking me for the disorganized mountain of toys in the background! That's the toy room. And the whole reason we have that room is so that I can close the door on it and not stress about it! Hahahaha!

He is just as precious as any baby can be!

How's he doing? Did it hurt him to get the tubes out? I remember when DH had his gauze taken out after his deviated septum was repaired...cried like a little girl (not really tears but, whining a lot!).

You can tell your son is happy, you can see joy in his eyes. I'm glad to hear he's doing well.

Aw, thanks guys! (Gals... sorry!) I am of course crazy about him and his little brother. I'm one of those moms that gets stupid goofy when she looks at her babies. Oh come on, quit shakin yer heads. You know y'all do it too! You look at them and they smile and your insides go all mooshy. Yep. Not ashamed. icon_biggrin.gif

This is unfortunately not his last surgery. This is a process that will take a long time to complete. His next surgery (which thankfully won't be for a little while) will require bone being taken from his hip and put into the alveolar ridge (upper gumline) to fill the gap there. (the fun braces will come later.) He will also have an unknown number of surgeries over the years based on how his face grows and progresses. If it tends to grow like it's supposed to, he will require much less surgery. If his upper jaw is delayed and he ends up with an underbite, (which he has not had thus far, knock on wood) he would require more surgery. Also, if he has trouble with snoring and/or sleep apnea he would require additional nose surgeries. It's all a guessing game at this point. Wait and see, you know?

The good news is that he is perfectly healthy in all other respects. This is but a small piece of who he is. I try not to let it define him or hold him back in any way. He HAS a cleft, he is NOT a cleft, ya know? And I also try to teach him to be patient if people have questions. To explain that he has had surgery, etc. I think it really helps. He is just really now getting old enough to understand these things, so it will be interesting to see how he runs with it!

Hope you are all planning a fun memorial day weekend. I have to bake my buns off, but I'm also planning some fun!

Awesome to hear your take on your babies Melvira. I get the same way when I look at my sweetiepies. I truly do believe the sun doesn't rise until they open their eyes. Sometimes I think I have a problem because I'll stare at them from across the room and want to grab their faces and kiss them til they scream (which they usually do).

I'm going to pray that there will be minimal surgeries, period.

He's strong enough to be an example to those around him on how to be tolerant and unique, God bless him.

I know exactly what you mean. Do you make sure he is sleeping on his side or his back? My daughter had a major under bite and could not sleep on her tummy. We had to make special "sleep shirts" for her to make sure she didn't.

My baby has a seizure disorder from having multiple strokes. It is hard getting some people past that. She tells them that she is more than the girl with seizures, I also (fill in blank with little girl stuff). We tried really hard not to treat her different than any other kid. They already have to much "special" CRAP going on in their lives.

Where do you get your vanilla beans from Mel? I thought I wrote it down and now I can't find it.

Have a great weekend and give those boys a hug from his cake aunties!

Tita, I know what you're saying. You wanna kiss them so much it would border on child abuse. So you try not to do it. But sometimes you can't help it. This morning I was sitting on the couch and Alex came up and said, "Mommy, do you want me to cuddle with you?" Um, duh?!?! You don't have to ask me twice! Then he lays his head on me and says, "Oh mommy, I just love you sooo much!" (OMG, what did I EVER do to earn this?? I wanna know cuz I wanna keep doing it!!!)

Cute story that I don't think I've shared with ya... my oldest sister made Alex a blanket while I was pregnant, it's all hand embroidered, just awesome, and it's his favorite blankie. He sleeps with it every night, calls it his 'special blankie'. One morning I'm sitting on the couch and he crawls up next to me with his blankie and kind of leans on me. Then he smiles really big and says, "Oh, I just love you SOOO much!" I got all choked up and said, "I love you too, Alex, soooo much!" He looks up and blinks at me with this "Why are you so dumb?" look, then says, "I was talking to my special blankie!" then he pats the blankie and says, "I love you soooo much special blankie!" HEARTBROKEN!!! But then he came back and said he also loved me. (But not with the fervor he used on his special blankie!!)

Ooh ooh!

Sammy's no "so not affectionate" man child. I went in to wake them up, really get them out of bed because they were already screaming like banshees, and he looks at me and says, "Mama, I love you so much"...sniff! I just jumped on his bed and smothered him with kisses.

My affection has to be over the top, but when you come from a family that NEVER (no exaggeration) showed love towards eachother, you want your babies to feel overly loved. I could care less if people think it's too much. One thing my babies (all 5 of them) will never be able to say is that they weren't sure I loved them.

PLUS! It's been proven that the more affection you receive at home the higher your self-esteem and the lower the chance they'll seek affection from others (read: fast girls and dirtbag guys).
