my son and daughter in law are in tennessee...they are thinking of putting a home bakery in an out building they have on their property.
is this legal in tennessee?
What part of Tenessee are they in? A home bakery in Tennessee is legal but if it is in a building seperate from their home, it will fall under the same guidelines as a commercial kitchen. It is also legal in Tennessee to use your own home kitchen but you must have a permit and be inspected by the state. Individual counties may also require inspections from the local health department. Tell them to contact the TN Dept of Agriculture about the Domestic Kitchen program and then their local health department.
they are just a little bit north in obion county
the outbuilding they have is about 300 square feet and already has water and power in it....kinda a tight fit...but they only want to do it on the weekends.
In Davidson County you have to have a separate kitchen and you can not have any clients come to your home. I live in Davidson County and called recently to see what are the requirements. Each county is different so you need to call for the county you are planning on having the home business.
