piping gel isn't the best idea, that doesn't really dry and might slide.
On second thoughts royal would be better. Can't you just mix in a mug a tinybit of egg white with some powdered sugar. It would take you about 2 mins and you will know it will hold strong.
Beat it in a mug with a metal spoon like mad for a minute or so. Make it nice and thick.
I use buttercream icing to glue mine to fondant you could even try melted white choc. aIf you use bc be sure to take a little with you in case any do fall off.
I have just been attaching mine to the fondant with a little water brushed on...as long as the decals were fairly small and light, that has always worked. Maybe I've been doing it wrong then? I just started with cakes and that seemed like an easy way to do it for me.
