Can You Use Buttercream On Top Of Fondant?

I am new to using the two types of frostings and I know you can put fondant on butter cream just fine but will it work the other way around.. cover a cake in fondant to get the nice smooth finish it provides but be able to write on the cake with butter cream.

You most definitely CAN use buttercream on top of fondant for writing, piping, flowers, etc.
There is some chance of "smearing" colors, though...so be extra careful. Especially something like black icing on white fondant! As Buddy Valasco says: "It's a one-shot deal".
