Did anyone ever try the jello with sugar? I know it says that it would be too sticky but i'm wondering if made a bit thicker and left to dry longer it might still be used as a medium? Also I posted pictures of the first fancy cake I ever made (I made it the first week in November) It doesn't have any gelatin work its all homemade fondant, but it was still fun to make ![]()
What size impression mats?? I have several that are 5-3/4 x 7-1/2..are these big enough?
So I would probably have to use 2 impression mats worth of strips...I want to make a red one for Christmas!
Thanks so much Cindy for all your help and advice!![]()

Okay..so I have a box of Knox gelatin...when you say 4 tbsp of powder to 12 tbsp of water does that mean one packet of gelatin? Or do have I have to open 2...It doesn't say on the box how much in a packet..but it does say that one packet will set 2 cups of liquid which too me is too much to make a bow? Am I wrong or just not reading it right!
Thank you for taking the time to post how to do this. Greatly appreciated!!
Wow, the items made from gelatin are amazing.
Can you attach the gelatin to modeling chocolate by any chance? I'm going to try making a Tinkerbell out of modeling chocolate in a few weeks, and I thought the gelatin would make beautiful wings!
Great minds think alike, lol. I'm planning on doing the same thing for Tink for my Peter Pan Gingerbread project this year. I'm also using gelatin to make the windows on the Jolly Roger.
Last year the hard candy coating on my Emerald City melted away when the temperature was not controlled properly at the event. Not going to let that happen again! Florida humidity STINKS!
Just thought I would jump back in and let you know how much I LOVE gelatin!!!!!!!!!!!! I used plastic plates to make sheets of gelatin for windows and Tink's wings. I used candy melts as glue and it worked just great. It hardens so quickly that it didn't melt the gelatin.
hello, i just wanted to make sure if its 4 tsp gelatine & 12 of water??? thank you
Okay so I made the batch and brushed the mixture on to a impression mat..It took overnight but it popped off..I have now cut the strips to make a bow but they feel very brittle. They aren't breaking but when I try and loop them over they seem dry.I am afriad some will snap...Am I brushing the mixture on to thick?
Thanks Loucinda...I jsut discovered that when I made another sheet...The thinner the better...
I tried using the gel mixture to make a half bottle (a bottle laying down ) I made up the mixture 2 days before the cake was do and poured into my silicone mold. It ended up being about 1 inch thick. Although it was not a total flop it didnt completely dry and when I added some fondant ( the bottle lable) it started melting. What melted rehardened. I don't think I used proper proportions of gel to water and that was my problem. I am going to continue to experiment with this [/img] I also used a drop of vanilla to achieve the color I wanted
I made my first gelatin bow last week and it came out really good..Qestion for anyone who has tried this...
I want to glue it onto a cakeboard covered in foil..Can I use a dab of WBH Buttercream which is a soft non crusting bakery icing or do I have to use gelatin? Will the BC icing melt the bow?
Thanks

okay great..I don't have any gelatin left so I didn't want to have to make any if I didn't have to..I'll add the bow on just before they come and get it..they are picking it up just before the party so even if it does melt they will be cutting it by then.
Lookie what I did!!
That poinsettia is stunning!
Thanks everyone! I'm having a great time with this new technique! ![]()
Lookie what I did!!
Amazing!!
I just came here to post my poinsettia that I made and saw yours!!
Very amazing!!
I used a leaf mold to make my poinsettia petals and fondant balls dropped into luke warm gelatin for the berries.
It's not as amazing as yours but I'm pretty proud of it!!!
