Okay this is the 100th time I have tried this cake. I finally got the shape of the bottle right and now that it's covered in fondant and totally hardened/dry I tried to paint food coloring get on it. I am following directions from confetti cakes to a T and still it's not coming out. Now food coloring is breaking up and creating holes all over and very streaky. I used burgundy food coloring gel straight and with a tad bit of vodka and either way it's still seperating. It's thick too just like the directions said so I don't know who to do this right...any advice from those of you who have painted wine bottle cakes?

Did you color your fondant first, the color you want? That will make it easier to paint, you will not have to use as much food coloring. I painted watered down piping gel as a final layer (after dry) to give it a shine. I am not sure what you mean when you say it is separating, but try to let it dry in between coats.
