Fondarific; Have You Used It?

So i just bought santin ice for the first time and covered 2 cakes with it... and i had tearing and i couldnt figure out for the life of me what i was doing wrong! glad (or not! lol) to hear that others have that problem too!

Is the tearing and/or elephant skin non fixable? or does someone have a trick/tip to share??

I mix SI and Wilton fondant together and it seems to help with the elephant skin and the tearing.

I've done dummie cakes with fondant , people in my area just don't like it and don't want to pay the price. It sounds like even though this is good stuff it would cost your first born to do a cake in it. Why is it sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo expensive?

Duff just mentioned this brand on their season finale last night. He said that it stays soft.

That's what interests me when I use fondant for pieces on cakes I hate that it gets hard. I can't imagine eating a cake that the fondant has hardened on. Oh well , I can't imagine eating cake with fondant period, when I want cake I want icing. Personal preferance?

I was trying to teach my grand daughter to use MMF today (she wanted to help make mommys Mothers Day cake)...I told her to rub some crisco on her hands to knead the color into it and when I was not looking she must have used too much because when I went to put the MMF on the cake holy cow it was really stretchy and loose........is that what caused it? I am new myself to this, but since the MMF I worked with was ok I thought maybe it was too much crisco on her patty fingers? I tell you I will not buy satin ice again...MMF is terrific and cheap.......heehee

I buy Satin Ice - it doesn't say Wilton - but it cracks - it's dry - what can I do besides kneading it for ten hours???lol

Like someone mentioned before, try mixing SI with Wilton's fondant. It makes it a little stiffer and it does not rip that easily. I don't have an exact ratio, I just start mixing about 2/3 SI to 1/3 Wilton and then adjust as needed.

I am excited to try Fondarific. Will go order the sample pack now.

I was at my cake store today and I asked one of the ladies if she had used the Fondarific. She asked if I wanted to try some - it is SO good. I've only tried two flavors, buttercream and cherry, oh my goodness. Delicious!!! She also said that it is supposed to go three times as far as the SI. Which makes it much more cost effective. A two lb. tub of SI is almost 9.00, the Fondarific is almost 12.00. Definetly worth the extra money for me. I actually need to make my own MMF but I'm always running behind!

The texture of the Fondarific is so soft - almost like bubblegum. I'm anxious to try some out. And the colors are beautiful!

I just tried a tiny piece of the chocolate - OH MY GOODNESS!!!! It is so good, I'm going to go buy a tub just for me to eat! icon_lol.gif

I used it today for the first time and wasn't happy with it. It is not as white as Satin Ice. I had more wrinkles at the bottom of the tier and I never get them with Satin Ice. I used Fondarific on on top tier and Satin Ice on my bottom. When I removed it from the fridge, it sweated much more than the Satin Ice and became tacky. The sweat never evaporated. I'm staying with Satin Ice!

My family wont eat the satin ice or wiltons but they will eat home made mmf
