I am making some baby shower cookies with a shortbread . I want to decorate them with royal icing but I would like to put some almond flavor. It is this possible? I am afraid to mess the icing.

Yes! Please do! Royal icing by itself tastes yucky. I add a couple of tablespoons of corn syrup and a teaspoon or so of clear flavoring to a one pound batch of royal for cookies.

Are you using Antonia's royal? I find her's to be not so bad tasting. But I think I will use some flavoring this time around just to try it out.

my fav is strawberry extract. it really makes it smell & taste great. be careful though it turns the icing pink. (almond might change the color too). if you are making girl shower cookies strawberry extract makes a perfect pale pink & then you dont have to add coloring. good luck! icon_surprised.gif)

I just made a batch of Antonia's Icing and added 2 drops of Cotton Candy flavoring..It smelt so good and the taste was great!!I read the label first and it didn't say any oil compound so I thought "Why not"

I am glad you asked this! I didn't use any flavoring last time, but thought it might be a bit tastier with it! I can't wait to make another batch!!

I've used the strawberry and cherry juice from marichino cherries "if" I'm using a color in the frosting and don't need it white. I also have used clear vanilla and butter flavoring but take off some of the liquid so as not to make it too thin.

Yes, you can flavor it, just be sure to use extracts which are alcohol based, not oils which break the RI down.
