I need an immediate response to this question. Can high-ratio shortening go bad and cause food poisoning?

According to answers.com, it can go bad and make you sick (not sure about food poisoning specifically).

Yes, it can go rancid.

How long is the shelf life? I keep my in a cool dry place wrapped in several layers of plastic.

Will is have a bad smell ??? Or look moldy???

The color will no longer be white, and it will have a slightly "off" smell. I believe the shelf life for Sweetex is 6 months... it should say on the box.
