Support The Lid Of A Treasure Chest Cake?

So that it kind of sits on the 'treasure' in it & you can see the treasure spilling out?

I thought maybe cover a couple of straws in shiny paper & use those, or toothpicks maybe. But, does anyone have any other suggestions?

I just use dowels and pile up treasur around it to hide them.

I recently made one. I used two dowel rods toward the front of the chest. I painted them with brown food coloring above where they would show. I also piled coins etc around them so they wouldn't be as noticeable. Worked great. The cake traveled several times and did well. Good luck.

I just cut a board smaller than the cake and put the "Loot" towards the front and the back touched the back of the cake and it looked perfect and was super easy.
