Help, Cream Cheese Or Buttercream Icing?

I have an order for a red velvet cake for tomorrow which icing goes the best for red velvet buttercream or cream cheese icing? Or should I use a different kind of icing. It is for a ladies birthday and she just said red velvet how should I decorate it? Is that cake crumbs I see on some of the pictures I have seen online?
I prefer my red velvets to have a cream cheese icing. That's what my southern grandma always put on it
