be in a bridal show expo. I have only done two wedding cakes and I never got a picture of the second one - I forgot my camera. I really dont know if I am ready for this. I love to do cakes and this would be great for my business but I'm not even sure of what kind of dummy cake to do. I was thinking of a three tier round dummy cake covered in fondant with ribbon around the bottom of each tier. (my space is limited to one 6' table) plus I will be serving cake samples. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!! ![]()
I don't have any suggestions, as I have never sone a dummy or real wedding cake. But I wanted to tell you that, as one cake decorator to another, I am extremely proud of you!! This is a terrific opportunity for you to get your name out there in the public arena. Go get them!!! Let us know how it goes.

I know I am going to sound discouraging, and I do not really give a hoot who gets mad at me for it. You're asking for opinions, and I am offering mine.
If you are apprehensive about this, then give it a second thought before you commit.
First, you have only done two wedding cakes, with only one picture, so what are portfolio do you have to show potential clients? You cannot show them magazines, or pictures taken from websites, as they are not your work.
Second, what will be the cost of appearing at this bridal show? You are going to have to come up with fees, display accessories (table cloths, etc) least 3 dummy cakes, tasting cakes and serving items. Do you have the time to do all this preparation? Is it affordable to you? Bridal shows where I live cost a minimum of $500 to appear at.
I agree that this is a great opportunity, but you really need to look at this from both sides before you make such a commitment.
If you decide to do it, then I admire your courage, and wish you the best of luck. Let us know how many bookings you get from it.

Thank you both for your replies, greatly appreciated. The cost to participate is really reasonable!! They expect to have about 300 brides. I have everything already to make the cake dummies it is just a matter of doing them. So my cost would be the fee plus the cakes to give as samples. I figure total my cost will be around $200. I am also thinking that if I do this I might also make some bridal cake cookies.
Then by all means, go for it!
Good luck!

Sounds great! Good luck.. I think everyone has little doubts when you start something like that. After you are done you will think wow that was no big deal. My big recommendation is to put your samples in those little cups with lids before hand so that you don't have to cut cake at the show.
