I'm trying to figure out what else I can do to this cake. Should I add a border around the top? should it be a shell border? any suggestions on how to maybe make it look like waves?

It's for a girl who is turning 16, her fav color is blue and she loves dolphins.

Any and all suggestions welcome. I'm ready for bed!!!

Well, Im looking on the wilton page at the Tips. And what about maybe using the tip#22? That kind of looks like waves. Take a look and see.....????

What about using any star tip and use a quotation mark type thing? You know....like the reverse shell motion - maybe with a little extra circular motion. Start about a half inch to an inch above the bottom, circle up in a counterclockwise motion and then come down to the right at an angle. (Just like a backwards 9.) Extend the tail just a tad to and then you will have your waves - even better - stripe the bag blue and white......it doesn't have to be perfect. icon_smile.gif
That would be for the bottom - if you want to do one on top, I'd go with a smaller tip - probably a 16 or so. icon_smile.gif A reverse shell will complement the wave border well too.

Post more pics if you add to it!

You could use any star tip and make the c scroll pattern to look like waves.

Thanks for the great suggestions. I think I will add a border, but what she had originally asked for was fondant waves going around the top of the cake. I don't think that would look good though. To just have the waves "floating around the top. It doesn't make sense to me so I thought I would do it with buttercream or royal icing. Do you think I can do it with royal? I did think about striping the bag also, I like that idea.
