If you water down Wilton's colours, can you use that as "paint"? I understand the lusterdust painting & using vodka/extract as the liquid, would the same apply to the W.colours? Is there any prep. needed before painting?
TIA
I have used a dot of paste and VODKA, not water, to paint with. The water will gum up the fondant/gumpast if you use a lot of it. the vodka evaporates better. I also, in a pinch, have used plain from the grocers, food coloring liquid.
i've used my wilton pastes with alcohol and it worked just fine. Its pretty expensive to use luster dust, for me anyway.U want the alcohol or extract added to either LD or wilton colors so it gives the wetness to paint but then it evaporates and the color drys on the fondant. HTH
I just finished painting a fondant covered cake with Wilton colors mixed with clear vanilla. It works great. I agree that it is expensive to paint with the luster dust, but when you need silver or gold this works great.
