my mom's birthday is coming up on monday and i wanted to make her some form of chocolate cake that looks really cool and is exciting, hopefully with some color and not the standard one layer... any ideas?
thanks!
Not sure about your experience - here are some step by step in pictures - all covered in chocolate /thaw chocolate with some butter or crisco/ pour over chilled cake and decorate:

i just made my mom a cake (her b day is saturday) She does not allow gifts but always wants her french vanilla cake. I have never made her a sheet cake, she is far to special for that! ...and the cake IS her gift. In the past I have made a mini layered cake and decorated it with butterflies and pansies (one mix will make 1 of each...8", 6" and 4" round cake), a two teired haert shaped cake but sepatated the layer with pillars (purple with pansies (her fav flower), this year I made a mini topsy turvy cake (used two mixes so each teir would have two layers to work with. This year i wanted something different with different colors so I made it match her card. I cant wait for her to see it! it came out great and I was pleased at my first attempt at the topsy turvy cake. I make all her cakes on the smaller side since there is only 7 of us eating it. I try to think of designes that will use one mix, no more than two
