I love working with Fondant and I hate working with BC. Okay, well decorating with BC is fine but smoothing BC is impossible!!!!! RRRGG!!! I can smooth fondant like no one elses business but BC...Forget about it! I've got a lot of practice. I have to do my SIL's wedding cake in March and she has to have BC.....I wish I could beg her for MMF.... icon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gif

Sorry you have so much trouble smoothing BC. I personally am getting better at smoothing BC. I didn't think I would ever get it but it gets better and easier everytime I do it. I hope it gets better for you. Good luck with the cake.

Oh katy, ya know I lov ethe suggestin of the paint roller. I have been doing that and love it. Works better than the viva papertowels for me. I still get a little hung on the corners though. I have yet to cover a cake in fondant so I am nervous for that. icon_smile.gif

I hope I've got this right, if not someone please correct me.

One of the members developed the Melva method for smoothing BC. You would not believe how well it works. What use to take me 90 min. I do in 5.

I'll try to look it up for you or maybe someone out there has it.

I know how you feel!!! Fondant seems to come more naturally to me also, but a while back I saw a post by Melvira called "I share because I care" where she used a foam paint roller to smooth buttercream and it worked wonders for my cake!! There are several posts about it, but the one I mentioned is the original and if you're like me you'll never smooth a buttercream cake any other way ever again! icon_smile.gif

Melvia,

I'm so glad you were around.

I still don't know how you thought of that one. You needed to sell them on TV. But, then again you would be giving a good secret away icon_wink.gif

I thank you over, and over again. king.gif You are Queen.

I agree that the Melvira method is GREAT! I also could not smooth buttercream to save my life. I read about the roller and got one immediately. My cakes are so smooth now. Melvira will never be forgotten because I think of her when my cakes turn out smooth. Thank you again and again Melvira.

The Melvira method is the best tip for 2006 for me! I love that roller thing but I still chuckle each time I use it. I have always loved to shop at hardware stores for everything i need and this method proves that it's still the best place to get new ideas.

Anyway, Melvira, thanks for that time-saving and perfectly-perfect tip!!!!!

You guys are SO cute!! You make me feel like a princess or something!! *love ya*

tyty, the brand of roller that I use is called "Quick Solutions" but there are other brands in different ares, depending on where you live. If you are unsure, I would suggest you go to your local hardware or paint store and tell them you need a 6 inch dense foam paint roller, I believe they are actually called 'edging' rollers. They are only about 1 inch in diameter, not the full size paint roller you use to cover your whole wall. Make sure you don't get a textured one, and get the densest foam they offer!! Good luck darlin'!
