A baby's weight at birth is more about the Mother than about their future physical size.

This topic is (unfortunately) still an issue if you look around at the size of today's kids.

My 13-year old step-daughter is way up there too. At one point I think she was over 200 pounds, partly due to her DNA (her mom is a BIG woman - tall and big boned as well as heavy), but also due to bad eating habits and laziness (she'd come home from school, eat 5-6 large cookies and then go take a nap). This past year she got involved in cheerleading and the athletic program at school. She has lost weight (but still could shed 20-30 pounds) and now weighs 180. Although I don't talk about it too much, I think she is beginning to realize that what goes in your mouth just might end up on your belly, thighs and butt. I don't see her hitting the junk food as hard as she used to.
