I made this cake for a wedding in November. The layers were 14, 12, 10 and 8, with an 9 inch side cake. All the layers were iced in buttercream. The chocolate fudge layers were wrapped in chocolate transers and the Red Velvet were done in basketweave. All the layers were 5 inches thick. It took me about 30 hours, but then I didn't know what the heck I was doing!
I did that cake for cost ($150), for a friend, and now someone wants the identical cake with a different chocolate transfer. I haven't got a clue what to tell them it would cost.
I know I said I'd never make another one.... icon_biggrin.gif I would be more comfortable doing this same one again, but only if I made some money! You guys are so good to answer this kind of question!

from what I've read so far on pricing, I would think $450 would be a good startign point. You said it took you 30 hours at $10 hour + $150 in supplies= $450. Again, I think that would be a rock bottom price if you are trying to cut them a deal. You could definitely ask for a lot more, it is beautiful. Don't forget to include the price of the roses if they want roses, since you said the florist added them I wasn't sure if you included them in your supply list. HTH

gorgeous cake- how many servings??? Try figuring that by like a munimum of $2.50 per and see how that comes out - $450.00 would be triple cost which i think is fairly normal but... thats an amazing cake .

that would be like $700.00 hmmm.... thats alot !

With those dimensions and a side cake, I'm guessing 150 to 200 servings? Plus it's a square cake (a 10" square pan uses more batter than a 10" round pan).

Splitting the difference and using 175 and take that times let's say a conservative $2.50 per slice plus extra charges for chocolate transfers, plus delivery and set up, it's not unreasonable to charge a minimum of $450.

Your basketweave looks really great, too!

Well, if you go by the Wilton wedding cake chart, it would have served 230, but, man, those are little slices! icon_surprised.gif I did deliver and set it up. Actually, there was a funny story there. The wedding reception was at the Officers Club at Scott Air Force Base. One of my sons best friends is stationed there. Anyway, we pull up and give the guard our pass, and the DH is giving her his license when this other soldier comes running up, with his hand on his gun, saying "don't let them in! We need to search this car!" I'm in shock, sitting there holding this 14 inch cake on my lap, praying the others are fine in the trunk. Then I looked closer and it was Grant....grinning like an idiot! I've known him since he was 6 and I swear I'm gonna turn him over my knee for that! icon_lol.gif
Anyway, I think if I did it again I'd say $500. As to my basketweave, it's the only thing I can do besides shell borders! icon_lol.gif I just get lucky!
Thanks for all your compliments! It makes me want to try more cakes!
