Ok I am making a baby shower cake today, its a beach theme, and I don't know whether or not I should ice the water smooth, or have a "wavy" look to it? I'm open for any ideas/help!!

I, personally, vote for waves!! icon_biggrin.gif I think it adds texture and interest to a cake. Here's one with waves I did... it's not a beach cake, but it has waves - so you get what I mean. Good luck!

thanks j-pal I ended up going smooth because the waves I tried to make only made my cake look amerturish (not that I'm not!) but I wasn't happy with the look .... oh well thanks again!

I like to spread a thin layer of clear or very pale teal piping gel over blue icing for water. Gives it a great wet look!

Yes, piping gel does have a taste. But it is not unpleasant. I use it all the time for water and never had a complaint- only compliments. Good luck.
