Just hanging out here in Columbia Missouri. Got about an inch of sleet last night, since it was not freezing rain we are not having the tree/power line problem. Roads are still a mess though. We got a break through the day but now here at 4pm it is fired back up and expected to go all night again with a sleet/freezing rain mix. Friday I stocked up the tank and the pantry and made sure my homebound grandpa was stocked up. Are hunkered down and futzing around!!

Hey Littlecake, where are you in OK? I am in Bixby.

We seem to have it a little better here than some so far. (I am home visiting from Alaska for a few months) My brother had to go to work in this crud, he said the roads were terrible.

I have a bag packed for me and the kids. If the electric goes out we are finding a hotel! (I hope)

: )

Stay safe,

We're waiting for round 2 here in St. Louis . . . we got the freezing rain last night and have ice all over the trees. I saw a lot of trees and branches down today. The roads are fine as I don't think the ground was cold enough for them to ice over so they are just wet.

This second round will bring a lot more power outages, I'm sure, as the branches are already sagging out there.

gilpnh . . . I went to Mizzou, did you?

Here in the DFW area we are still getting mostly freezing rain, but the temp is dropping, so by morning we will probably be iced in, and warnings out through tomorrow into Monday morning.

Not as bad as further North, feel for you all up there and wherever you are caught up in this cold nasty mess!

Keep warm and stay safe. Janice

Little cake, are you in Muskogee? I thought I heard where you guys were without electricty and was pretty hard hit. : )

We used to play coweta in softball when I was in school. I grew up and went to college at OSU. I love OK. But I love Alaska too. Going back there in a few months. We will have to try and get together before then! : )

yeah in muskogee...

i went into the shop today, did all my cake orders...as i was giving my next to the last customer his cake at almost 4:00 i saw thru the front window a huge tree branch crack....fall off and almost hit a passing truck.

i said..."i'm pretty dedicated...but i'm outta here!"...i left a cake in the case, i guess they'll understand....a huge tree behind the shop went completely down today...seemed like everytime i went outside you'd here a sickening loud crack...and another tree was hitting the ground.

i must be pretty lucky...still have power at my place...

So you have a bakery in Muskogee? That's cool! : )

You must be dedicated to be there on a day like today. I can't believe whoever was having the party didn't have to cancel it anyway.

Hope your electric stays on! : )

I'm on the Illinois side of St. Louis and so far, not so bad, ice-wise. Round 2 is on the way and tomorrow could be terrible! The trees are iced over and sagging, but the roads are okay. My folk like 5 miles away and lost power for 7 days in July and 9 days in November because of storms. They're out on a country road. We were lucky, and only lost power for 2. I have all the candles and stuff out and groceries. I'd take 3 feet of snow over any ice! Yikes! icon_surprised.gif

Well, up here in Milwaukee we got some snow, rain that then froze over. Man have the salt trucks been out the last 2 nights, salting the roads just in case. I think they are just trying to use up all the salt the excess salt that they have icon_lol.gif It's been a very dry winter, very little snow, and when we do get percipitation it's in the form of rain and not snow! icon_eek.gif
Darn global warming! icon_mad.gif

I'm in Lawrence, KS and we've been iced in since Friday morning. Plus we're getting snow tomorrow. I hate being stuck inside! icon_mad.gif At least DD doesn't have school tomorrow so I don't have to drive in this mess. I really can't complain much because Thursday it was 60. Now it's in the 20's. I guess that's what I get for living in Kansas. The weather's always weird.

We're pretty much hunkered down here in Shawnee, too. (It's about 30 miles east of the City if you don't know where it is) DH went to Wal-Mart to pick up some stuff for the kitty and lunch today and said the intersections and about 10 feet on either side of the intersections were clear; other than that, though, even the main road through town was a solid sheet of ice. He said the snow plows were scraping the sleet/snow away and leaving the ice which made it worse cause you couldn't get any traction. He made it safely to Wal-Mart and back but wouldn't recommend to anyone else we knew here in town to go out. And his work (DH) got out early on Friday (he works Mon. thru Sat.), and work was called off for Saturday and already called off for tomorrow...that'll hurt the paycheck but it's been fun having him home.
Today we got what the news channels were calling "thundersleet;" did you other okie's get that? It was thundering and lightning while sleeting out--so crazy! Oh, and I missed Rachael Ray and my Days of Our Lives on Friday cause it was all weather coverage on NBC on Friday--sure hope they're on tomorrow! Hehe!
We've been playing board games with some of DH's family that lives a few blocks away and cooking up some great "cold-day" meals--having fun at home, though!

I know exactly where Shawnee is. I used to live in Kansas City, KS and I would shop at that Wal-Mart all the time. We didn't get any thunder here. Or at least I didn't hear any. We are also having the "cold day meals". I made chicken and dumplings the other night and tomorrow will probably be chili. I will be glad when this weather's done. I did see on the weather that Saturday should be around 40. I'm just glad I don't live in Springfield, MO. My grandmother lives there just outside of Springfield. They got it really bad down there. She's lost power and can't find anyone she knows that has it. She's stubborn and won't go to the shelters. My mother told her to come up here, but she doesn't want to. She doesn't want to leave her home. I worry about her. A tree branch fell on her power line and her van. They at least have another vehicle to drive. The bad thing is they live on $1000 a month so they can't afford to have any damage to any of their property. (No insurance) I'm going to try to send her some money and see if she can at least get a hotel room. If they aren't all full already. Everyone who's in this mess stay warm and drive safe if you have to be out in it.

I feel for you all. We went through it over the new years. It started here on the 30th. That is when we lost a big branch. We had another storm the week before and had broken and weaken alot of branches. That branch took out our cable (internet icon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gif ) and dragged down our power and phone lines but we still had both of them. Then on the 31 we lost power. We don't have a fireplace or gas stove so it got really cold icon_cry.gificon_cry.gif And that sound of breaking trees was so scary. And the branches that were scrapping the top of the house threating to fall icon_cry.gif So we were without power for 4 days and cable for 8. And we spliced it to get it going again. Our news channels and radio station were also out. We only had a neighboring town station giving us our information. It was very scary. Across town my nephews had power so we went there. It was crowded but they had heat. And they didn't mind cause they love my cooking icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif And bacholar 20 yr olds don't get anything good. So good luck with the thawing. it was almost worse than the storm. Random big chucks of Ice falling from trees. Very dangerous. It was scary driving down the street with the chunks falling. I will be thinking of all of you

Nope, didn't get thundersleet here today. It was mostly sunny this morning but the roads were even worse than they had been. School is canceled for tomorrow, not surprised.

We lost power at 10:20 this morning and you could hear all my family moan out load. Luckily it came back on again 30 minutes later! I was sooo relieved! : )

I had brough a cranky (you crank it up for power) radio home from Alaska with us (for some strange reason) and we powered it up. Love that thing. Was glad to have brought all our snow boots and hats/gloves too, LOL. On the bright side, at least I am not shoveling snow two hours a day like I was right before I left to come down here!

Sunny today and VERY cold, we got about 1.5 inches of sleet/freezing rain. The main roads are not bad, but the sidewalks, parking lots, driveways are so bad that they cancelled school for today, its almost like Christmas vacation all over again. Need to call my boss in a few minutes and let her know I won't be in. fortunaletly I can work most of this job from home. I finally got out after 4 days (talk about cabin fever) and took dinner to my grandpa who is homebound (I had stocked him up), couldnt get in his driveway, parked on the street, promptly fell flat on my back on the ice. laid there 5 minutes making sure nothing was broken and getting the stars to go away before getting up then crawled on hands and knees 30 feet to door. 5 or 6 cars passed and no one bothered to stop. Grrrr. Everything aches today but thank God nothing broken. I was raised on the west coast, days like this, man I miss it.

Well, Tuesday and Wednesday the city just shut down..........we are not used to ice and snow in these parts so the best thing to do is just stay home. Businesses, schools and government offices were closed.

But by Thursday, most everything was up and running again. Now it is just cold and a little wet.

We've just started to melt from all of the ice we got and now we are supposed to get 4-6 inches of snow this weekend. I'd rather have snow then ice so I guess it's not so bad. I'm just tired of being stuck in the house on the weekends. That's my time to get out and get stuff done. Oh well, not much I can do about it. Maybe next weekend I'll be able to get out. Hopefully!

Hope everybody stays safe and warm. Janice

sweetness_221 I agree about the snow situtation, I'm in Nebraska did the Ice storm twice. And then the snow last weekend and now again this weekend. I agree about not getting anything done. KNOCK ON WOOD we haven't lost power since the new years storm. Our power system here is still shakey. We run on 5 lines to the town and only have 2. And as you well know there are several people with out power around your area as well as ours. I am so thankful right now to have power. My sister told me the farmers almanac said we would have bad weather every weekend till like march or something like that icon_cry.gificon_cry.gif And I truelly feel for everyone who is not use to this weather and how to drive in it. Please be Safe and prepared. I am thankful for snow and not the ICE.

Well it's starting to snow. UGHHH!!! icon_mad.gif Actually it's been snowing for about an hour now. I just got back from the grocery store. It was packed. Everyone decided at the last minute. I guess I was one of those who waited as well. Oh well I'm home now. It's actually kind of nice. The kids are sleeping and DH is on the other computer so it's really quiet in here. Especially since our satellite dish is out. It goes out when it rains and snows. It's actually rather annoying. I guess this gives me a chance to bake. At Dillons they had DH cake mixes 10 for $10. So I got a couple. Well be careful everyone if you have to get out in this mess. Drive safe.

It started snowing here about 3 hours ago. icon_cry.gificon_cry.gif And I also went shopping (at Wal-Mart) icon_cry.gif A very busy mess of a store icon_cry.gif There was also a fatality on the interstate going east. I don't the details. But it took my SIL an hour to get home and it ususlly takes her about 15 min. She lives in the next town to the east. And they had to route people over to the highway from the interstate. So the highway was slow going. So be safe everyone.
