My friend's son's first birthday is this weekend. We are making his cake together using a standing bear pan from Williams-Sonoma. http://www.williams-sonoma.com/srch/index.cfm?words=bear+pan The party invitations have monkeys on them. Is there a way to make this bear cake into a monkey cake? We could make the ears larger and add a tail, but what about the face?

That's a cute pan. I'd move the ears lower on the head and remove a lot of the nose. Here's a monkey tutorial I made a few months ago, maybe it will give you a starting-place:
