Ok cc'ers you have to give me a little push please and shove. I have a baby shower that I have to do this weekend and believe it or not just not in the mood.
Now, I usuallly love to bake and can't wait to make a cake and jump on it, but there's alot going on and just want some advice. What puts you in the mood? How do you get hyped up when your not in the mood, besides money. lol Ok, I still have energy to laugh. But really that's it.

I'm at that point, too. Just not motivated to do ANY baking. My friend who also does cakes told me this morning she's going through that now, too. Wonder if it's like a post-holiday depression or something? I was SO fired up about 4 months ago to do cakes for the Austin cake show and ordered all the cake dummies and bought the tools I knew I'd need and now I'm just not interested - AT ALL.
Do the rest of you go through these peaks and valleys???
Julie
Yep...I go through that. I'm there right now as a matter of fact. Like Julie said, must be the weather/time of year. I have a couple more cakes to bake and I'm really pushing myself to get them done. One day at a time I guess.
I seem to be right there with all of you! It has taken me since 6:00 am to get a cake into the oven. Fortunately, my big cake was just put off for a week because of illness. I'm not glad the 6 yr old is sick, but I'm relieved the cake is not needed tomorrow. Whew!
I only have a 1/4 sheet cake for a retirement due out tomorrow. No problem!
I think I'm headed to cakewrecks to get a little giggle. (Hope I don't end up on there by some freak situation! I'd have to cry!
)
Thanks all for that, you know what I was once on cakewrecks and I must say that there was this one cake which really wasn't bad but they said some really sad crap about it. I would've been pretty pissed off but I might just see what's on there today. And I also look in the gallery for the bazillionth time this week.
When I need a little help getting going I think of how happy they will be when they see the cake. I also know that that is a few hours of the day that I do not have to take care of the kids. If that don't work redbull and a lot of frosting samples help.
Tap into your own personal fan club. I feel unmotivated right before any cake I've done, and it's usually because I don't think it will come out well since I am still so new. I tell my fiance, or mom, or best friend, and they immediately give me the encouragement I need to get started.
Been there, too. Besides the suggestions to peruse the galleries and check out Cake Wrecks (which indeed do wonders for me), other things that have helped have been 1) to go for a drive, put in a favorite CD and sing along at the top of my voice - the car ride is so nobody else has to listen; 2) walk at a good pace for 20-30 minutes - I hate to cop to this one, since I really don't like exercising, but it works; and 3) call up or go see a good friend and talk intensely and passionately about something else for a while. HTH.
